Aufgabe:

We are seeking a candidate from universities, research institutions or industry with outstanding scientific credentials in artificial intelligence. Potential research interests are: * Deep reinforcement learning * Theory and algorithms of reinforcement learning * Deep learning for computer vision * Multimodal AI systems * Scalable learning algorithms and training methods for large AI models * AI-based agent systems (AI agents) Experience in the application of AI in software engineering, IT security, information systems or medicine is desirable. Cooperation between the professorship and the existing chairs and professorships in the faculty is desired. The professorship should also contribute to the faculty's research in the field of artificial intelligence. The postholder will represent the subject in research and teaching. This involves teaching modules for the Bachelor's degree programmes as well as research-led, English-taught modules for Master's degree programmes of the faculty. The ability to teach courses in German is desirable. Excellent publications, teaching experience, a strong track record in the acquisition of national and/or international external (third-party) funding - particularly for cooperative research projects - as well as experience or an interest in interdisciplinary projects are important selection criteria. Qualifikation:

The successful candidate will be educated to doctoral level and have demonstrated both pedagogical aptitude and academic excellence, whereby the latter is generally established on the basis of the quality of his or her doctoral research. No more than four years should have elapsed between the doctorate and the end of the application period. This period is extended by caregiving periods (see Art. 63(1) BayHIG). The tenure-track professorship follows the University of Passau's Regulation on the Evaluation of Junior Professorships and Tenure-Track Professorships of 8 August 2023. Tenure-track professors are initially appointed as civil servants on a fixed-term basis for a period of three years. Subject to a positive evaluation, the appointment is extended to a total duration of six years. Following a favourable final evaluation, the fixed-term tenure-track professorship is converted into a tenured W3 professorship.
